It’s mind boggling to say the least. First when the working committee was up for election. No one got the minimum vote of 50% to be selected. That should have been a mega huge eye opener. The simple fact that community didn’t want any of them to serve in the working committee. So what happened next! the threshold was lowered to 35%. And those who crossed the new mark were selected. And now with the latest vote that took place ending on Sunday 8th May 2022 the numbers in the chart (see image), With well over 80% asking four members to resign… They still don’t get it. What a monty python story for Auroville. What’s next? One might ask, well presumably the powers that be will state that Auroville can’t manage it’s internal organization and dot dot dot et voila!! .. One can guess the rest. Just to keep it all in perspective The fact that it is in the powers of the resident assembly that the WC members are elected. And so it’s upto the residents assembly to ask for some to resign if needed. And so the residents have spoken. “For the people by the people”. Simply.
The annual Mountain bike race by Aurovelo bicycle stores will be on February 16th 2020.This race will be a fun 30 Km race on single track trails and forest paths, and ending up at an exhilarating brand new race track at Aurovelo. The race will have riders from all age groups. From up coming young enthusiastic riders to the aging gracefully novice riders. The Older Auroville Cricket Team played a serious cricket match with the present Auroville Cricket team. Match organized by the present team. It was a fun time all the way. Hoisting the Indian flag, sharing lots of old memories, Drinking Green coconuts and eating chicken Biryanis.
Coming back to the match, It was very very tough. The Auroville Seniors scored 117 runs in 20 overs with Partha and Subramanian Kathiravan being the top scorers. And I scored 10 runs with a nicely Hit boundary. Chasing 118 to win, the Auroville Juniors had to face some not so hostile and fierce fast bowling from Senthil. In his second over Senthil removed one of the top order batsmen with a well timed bouncer. Then started the panic for juniors. In my first over and in the first and second ball took wickets and almost had a hat trick almost missing it by a whisker. From there onwards it was all the way the Auroville Juniors with Shani from Aurodam who had 7 lives hit some mighty sixes. It was actually the bat which did the Talking. It looks like that Shanti carried a very expensive (around Rs.20000) bat. Auroville Juniors comfortably won the match by 6 wickets and 3 overs to spare.
Auroville Seniors will officially lodge a complaint with the Auroville Council and Working committee and would push for an investigation to check if there were special spring inserted inside Shanti’s bat. We will wait for the result of the inquiry in 3 years until then, Shanti would be banned from playing all forms of cricket. 🙂

45 Years Ago Auroville was just an area on a sun backed red earth Plateau, even in old historic maps found the area was referred to as the “RED HILLS” Things have surely changed in 45 year.
Now 45 years later Auroville stands as a beacon of what can be done in Reforestation and water and soil Management. But the work is still in Progress. To some Progress is efficient roads and well managed traffic and to others progress is to let Nature do as it pleases. Over 45 years people have come to this desolate spot on the planet to work towards a dream, a Dream of true human unity and without a shadow of a doubt Auroville has always emerged victories to work and mold to over come obstacles in ways that allot of other intentional communities around the Planet would either buckle at the knees or close shop.
Auroville has its fare share of problems and obstacles that are on the path of the project. The work that Auroville and its inhabitants, is to find a way that will bring all sides together. That’s the work that is in front of the the Project called Auroville.
There is an older generation of Aurovilian who would like to see the city built according to plans that were made 4.5 decades ago, and there are others who see a more inclusive progressive approach. Let this year bring everything on the table so that collectively Auroville can develop in a beautiful harmonious way.
